Basic Medication Safety (BMS) Course

Health care systems around the world require mandatory training for health care professionals on a range of topics including basic life support, fire safety and lifting and handling of patients.

The IMSN has developed a course curriculum and support materials for a Basic Medication Safety Course (see resources section of this web site).

The course is designed to raise awareness of the frequency and types of medication errors, why they occur and methods to minimise the risk of harm to patients.
The course is designed to be delivered in 4 – 5 hours.

Dr Mubashar Kharal, Chairman, Medication Safety Program, and Amjed Abualburak, Nurse Trainer, Saud Bin Abdul Aziz University for Health Sciences, National Guard Health Affairs, Saudi Arabia have successfully delivered BMS courses to hundreds of doctors nurses and pharmacists in hospitals within their health system.

IMSN is promoting BMS courses for use in health care systems in other countries to help minimise preventable harms from medicines.

Organisations can obtain accreditation as an IMSN course provider.
